In Loving Memory of Buttercup

Buttercup was an amazing addition to our family and we were so blessed to have her in our life for the past four years (we only wish there were many, many more!).

I think about something Caesar Milan always says, you may not get the dog you want, but you get the dog you need. Buttercup was most certainly that dog for me. She was my trusted companion, walk partner, football game watcher and couch snuggler.

About two years ago, my mom was diagnosed with cancer and went through a long chemo and radiation series. Buttercup stayed by her side every day and was such a comfort for my mom. About a year ago, the cancer came back very aggressively and we lost my mom. This time, Buttercup was there to comfort me.

Over this past year, she began losing weight and having difficulty walking. It got to the point where I needed to carry her up and down the stairs and she was sleeping about 22 hours of the day. X-rays and bloodwork didn’t show what the cause might be. We tried pain meds and inhalers. Through it all, Buttercup never once complained (she certainly didn’t seem like she was 14 years old!). At that point, we knew it was time. That was one year to the date of my mom’s passing. I believe that my mom was there to greet her.

Thanks for allowing me to adopt her to be my fur-baby.

Best,
Jeanne Marano
